چکیده
Let Γ be an arithmetic lattice in a semisimple algebraic group over a number field. We show that if Γ has the congruence subgroup property, then the number of n-dimensional irreducible representations of Γ grows like n, where α is a rational number.

On the Growth of Torsion in the Cohomology of Arithmetic Groups
Let G be a semisimple Lie group with associated symmetric space D, and let Γ ⊂ G be a cocompact arithmetic group. Let L be a lattice inside a ZΓ-module arising from a rational finite-dimensional complex representation of G. Bergeron and Venkatesh recently gave a precise conjecture about the growth of the order of the torsion subgroup Hi(Γk;L )tors as Γk ranges over a tower of congruence subgrou...
متن کاملA New Representation of the Rational Numbers for Fast Easy Arithmetic
A novel system for representing the rational numbers based on Hensel's p-adic arithmetic is proposed. The new scheme uses a compact variable-length encoding that may be viewed as a generalization of radix complement notation. It allows exact arithmetic, and approximate arithmetic under programmer control. It is superior to existing coding methods because the arithmetic operations take particula...
متن کاملExact arithmetic on the Stern-Brocot tree
In this paper we present the Stern–Brocot tree as a basis for performing exact arithmetic on rational numbers. There exists an elegant binary representation for positive rational numbers based on this tree [Graham et al., Concrete Mathematics, 1994]. We will study this representation by investigating various algorithms to perform exact rational arithmetic using an adaptation of the homographic ...
متن کاملChern Invariants of Some Flat Bundles in the Arithmetic Deligne Cohomology
In this note, we investigate the cycle class map between the rational Chow groups and the arithmetic Deligne cohomology, introduced by Green-Griffiths and AsakuraSaito. We show nontriviality of the Chern classes of flat bundles in the arithmetic Deligne Cohomology in some cases and our proofs also indicate that generic flat bundles can be expected to have nontrivial classes. This provides examp...
متن کاملAn Algorithm for Redundant Binary Bit-Pipelined Rational Arithmetic
AbsfmctWe introduce a redundant binary representation of the rationals and an associated algorithm for computing the sum, difference, product, quotient, and other useful functions of two rational operands, employing our representation. Our algorithm extends Gosper’s partial quotient arithmetic algorithm and allows the design of an on-line arithmetic unit with computations granularized at the si...
